Review: It’s Showtime

“It’s Showtime” is a famous reality tv show in the Philippines that premiers in ABS-CBN. It consist of hosts Vhong Navarro, Anne Curtis, Vice Ganda, Billy Crawfrord, Karylle, Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla and Amy Perez-Castillo. It is a competition where three groups that can be up to two to twenty-three people perform a song or dance number. After each performance the judges will ask the audience for a score and the judges will take this into consideration and decide if the group is to retain on the show or not. If they are to be retained, the group will automatically be included into the main contest. The judges’ scores for the group will be added to the computation for the final winner. The group with the highest score at the end of the show wins the weekly finals. All of the winners throughout whole week will perform in the weekly finals. Then the winner will proceed to perform for the monthly finals and the one who wins will be able to compete for the season’s grand finale. Other than the show being a competition, Showtime also airs segments that offer cash prizes to the audience.

What makes this show captivate viewers is the hosts’ enthusiastic persona and the show’s creative output. People have fun watching this particular program as it is not solely concentrated on the competition. There are segments like ‘Drama sa Tanghalian’ which hosts, judges and guests participate in a sketch comedy skit. Another is the ‘House Mo, Show Mo: HashTaraNa!’ which members from Hashtags visit houses randomly and give cash prizes to the viewers.

This variety show’s popularity can not be mistaken as the directing to the flow of the show to the script of the hosts is suited to entertain everyone who is watching it. I have hopes for this show to continue in being one of the popular variety shows in the Philippines and that people would continue to support it for the next years to come.
